Ethiopia Reads volunteers and registered participants for the Walk for Logiya Project had a blast at the Ethiopian New Year celebration event at Mosswood Park in Oakland, CA. on September15, 2012. After completing a leisurely walk around Mosswood Park multiple times, one hundred or so participants ranging from small children to adults wearing green and yellow t-shirts adorned the field and mixed with the crowd, raising awareness for the cause, asking for pledges/sponsorship and selling books and t-shirts. This is the first time Ethiopia Reads had a huge number of kids participating during these celebrations (at least for this area) and the kids were highly energized and felt empowered, and wanted to engage the crowd even more. The goal was to raise $10,000 to build a functional library at Logiya primary School in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, and we came half way close to raising that amount, mainly through the devoted efforts of the friends and supporters of Ethiopia Reads in the San Francisco Bay Area, the enthusiasm and hard work of the children and the strong participation from the adoptive communities who reside in the Bay Area. Ethiopia Reads is highly appreciative and thankful to all the participants and would like to wish everyone a happy New Year “Melkam Addis Amet”. Below please find pictures from the event, an article from Oakland North and a video captured by one of our supporters-Zelalem Aychiluhim. Thursday, September 27, 2012
