Ethiopia Reads

Create a reading culture in Ethiopia by connecting children with books

School Libraries

School Library Development Program

Ethiopia Reads works with public schools to plant libraries for children at a rate of approximately one per month. These libraries are a resource for the tens of thousands of children, as well as hundreds of teachers and schools directors. Our goal is to open 100 libraries, bringing books, hope and joy to tens of thousands of children throughout Ethiopia. Our long-term goal is to operate libraries in the eight provincial capitals of Ethiopia and surrounding rural areas.

Ethiopia Reads provides each partner school with furniture, books and educational materials as well as training in literacy and librarianship. We provide long-term support for the libraries and those who work in them. Most libraries are sponsored by donors in the United States. Library sponsors have included individuals, foundations and school groups. Family members have sponsored libraries to celebrate new life or to honor the memory of a loved one or to recognize.

Ethiopia Reads is accepting library sponsorships - full library sponsorship is $10,000. For more information, please contact us.
