By summer time, Lanie’s backyard wildflower garden is blooming and attracting butterflies.  Lanie is also helping out with the community garden, where she learns that a blue whale’s tongue can weigh as much as an elephant and other fascinating factoids.  Even more importantly, she learns that she can do real citizen science with ladybugs, monarch butterflies, and aphids.  By the end of the book, Lanie knows that kids can make a difference in their own back yards and around the world…something that the many kids who raise money for Ethiopia Reads have also discovered.
