The power of small actions and big dreams. After six artists traveled to Ethiopia in February 2016 for inspiration, we now present you with the artwork!

A group of artists (Stephanie Schlatter, Yacob Bizuneh, Nahosenay Negussie, and Troy Zaushny) traveled together in February 2016 as part of Ethiopia Reads “An Ethiopian Odyssey II,” which included a painting tour of Maji and the Southern Nations of Ethiopia. There, they worked with a group of artists, writers, and humanitarians to create a series of children’s books which will be translated into the many native languages of the country.

Ethiopia Reads greatly appreciates the incredible talent and work that these incredible artists have invested in this special project, and is deeply grateful for their gifts of art and support to the Ethiopia Reads’ libraries, schools and other programs. We invite you to visit the artists’ work on-line, and attend the upcoming art exhibit featuring their work at the Blair Caldwell African American Research Library in Denver, Colorado.

Some of the proceeds from this event will support Ethiopia Reads’ Hawassa Reading Center, a flagship library celebrating 10 years of learning and literacy.

Not only will this event feature awe-inspiring art, but it will also highlight a fascinating new book-making project, a collaboration to create more local-language reading materials for children across Ethiopia.

Ethiopia Reads collaborates with Ethiopian communities to build schools, plant libraries, teach teachers, boost literacy, and provide youth and families with the tools to improve their lives.
